Register variation in understudied academic contexts

A major focus of register research has been language variation in academic discourse. These studies describe patterns use spoken and written texts. Although there have numerous this type, most focused on registers English descriptions published (e.g. textbooks, articles, abstracts). Much less work caried out other languages or unpublished registers. This special issue presents five describing the understudied discourse (learners’ writing statutory law), as well than (Russian, Portuguese, Arabic). We hope that papers will pave way for future contexts.
